10 Web Tools Which You Need To Use [Web Design]

Everyone needs some tools when working. The Internet can be a hard place sometimes to navigate and find what you are looking for – this is where these web design tools come in. In this blog, I discuss 10 web design tools that can be used by anyone and for the most part are free; always a bonus!

Image Compressors
Image compression is a brilliant way to save time by making image files smaller, it takes a shorter time to upload them and so you can get on with the more important tasks. In order to do this, you need image compressors. There are many online and free image compressors which you can choose from. Personally, I use CompressJPEG and TinyPNG for JPEG and PNG files respectively. Both sites allow you to upload up to 20 image files at a time and are free to use; TinyPNG has a upload limit per image of 5MB. Alternatively, if you are using images for websites, you can use image compression plugins such as Smush or WP-Optimize; I spoke about WP-Optimize here.

Image Editors
Staying on the topic of images, there are free, online image editors which you can use if you don’t want to pay for image editing software such as Photoshop. I have found LunaPic to be an extremely useful site to use for quick image editing if I don’t want to load Photoshop – some of my most used tools from the site are the replace color tool and the change colour tint tool. There are many other online image editing sites but I would personally recommend LunaPic.

Colour Picker
Another great online tool is the Image Colour Picker site. This web design tool allows you to find the exact hex and rgb code of the colours from an image. All you need to do is upload your image onto the site and click on the section where the desired colour is and it will give you the hex and rgb codes which you can then use across branding and a website.

WhatTheFont
WhatTheFont is another one of the web design tools which I would strongly recommend checking out. With this tool, you can upload a screenshot of a body of text and the robot will do its best to identify which font was used for that font. Even though it does not always find the exact font, it gives as close of a font as it can find; it is unlikely you would be able to see a difference.

Remove Background
It can be annoying when you find an image that you want to use but it has something undesired in the background of the image. This is where online image background removers come in – Remove.bg is a great example of this. You can upload your image to the site and in seconds the robot will reproduce the image without the background. The downsides of this web design tool is that you have to purchase credits to get the full HD version and sometimes the robot does not removed the background 100% perfectly.

Canva
Canva is an online platform which is used to create designs for a range of outputs, from social media to invoices to t-shirt prints. In my opinion, it is a simplified version of Photoshop and so is a great alternative for people who do not want to pay for Photoshop. You can also create video content with Canva, something which you would need a program other than Photoshop for.

Speed Tests
There are many online speed test sites which quickly analyse a website’s speed and give a report of the website. I would recommend using Google’s Speed Test as it is very quick and you also get a report of the mobile website’s speed as well as the desktop version. It also gives you tips on what you should focus on in order to improve the speed of the website which is very useful. A quicker website helps your ranking on Google, therefore getting more visitors to your website. Find out how I can improve your website’s loading speed here – Website Speed Optimisation.

Screen Recorder
Screen recorders are a necessary web design tool as it allows you to record a website page or a design and send it off to the client without having to set up a Zoom call and screen share. I use OBS, it is normally used for gamers and streamers but also has a free screen recording tool which works easily to record a section or your whole screen. Other screen recorders come with a price tag but OBS does not and so I would recommend using OBS.

Lorem Ipsum
Lorem Ipsum is commonly used across the Internet to act as placeholder text which will be replaced by real text. You can copy this text at Lipsum to whatever length you want, depending on how many paragraphs or words you would like.

Forums
Perhaps not too similar to the other web design tools as such, forums are a great place to find out solutions to problems that other people are likely to have had. There are support forums for WordPress as well as many other sites across the web. If not, feel free to ask me any questions you may have about web design here!

I hope that these web design tools will come in use for you one way or another.
